Jeff MacQuarrie studied trumpet with James Hargreaves at St. Francis Xavier University graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Classical Trumpet Performance in 1997 and a Bachelor's degree in Education (Secondary Music focus) in 1999.
He also studied conducting with James Hargreaves, Jazz Studies and Instrumental Methods with various St. F.X. faculty.
Jeff has been teaching in the New Brunswick public school system for the past 24 years directing extracurricular bands,
choirs, drama, and musical theatre at Bathurst High School where he also teaches grades 9-12 Music offering courses in
instrumental, vocal, rock band, music technology, and music therapy.
Jeff is the founder and conductor of the Phantom Jazz Band and Ottoni (Brass Ensemble) in addition to being assistant
conductor of the Bathurst Community Concert Band (BCCB). As a trumpeter, Jeff has performed as a soloist at provincial
and national music festivals as well as with a variety of ensembles including: The National Youth Band of Canada for 2
years (principal trumpet), The Nova Scotia Youth Wind Ensemble for 9 years (principal trumpet), lead trumpet with the St.
F.X. Big Band for 6 years, St. F.X. Brass Quintet, Chester Brass Band, and the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra. He currently
performs with BCCB, Ottoni, Phantom Jazz, and as a soloist.
