BAND FEST In a Nutshell

Jeff MacQuarrie (Bathurst) and Alistair Tulloch (Bathurst) will once again be your host conductors bringing a wealth of experience combined with relaxed, enjoyable, inviting, entertaining methods of weaving through our weekend together. For Band Fest 2024, Jeff will conduct Jazz Bands Level 1 & 2 and Alistair will conduct Concert Band Level 2.
JEFF MACQUARRIE
Jeff is the head of the Bathurst High School Music Dept. where he continues to teach music classes in addition to directing extracurricular band, choirs, drama, and musicals over the last 24 years. He holds degrees in music performance and education from St. FX. University. Jeff is the founder and conductor of the Phantom Jazz Band and Ottoni (Brass Ensemble) in addition to being assistant conductor of the Bathurst Community Concert Band (BCCB). As a trumpeter, Jeff has performed extensively as a soloist and within ensembles at the local, provincial, and national levels. He currently performs with BCCB, Ottoni, Phantom Jazz, and as a soloist. President of the NB Band Association, Jeff is a strong advocate for music education at all levels and continues to provide opportunities for people to discover their music. He is very much looking forward to Bathurst Band Fest and reconnecting with returning "Band Festees" as well as new friends.

ALISTAIR TULLOCH
Alistair is a retired music teacher from Bathurst, NB. Alistair has extensive education, conducting, and playing experience: a middle school teacher for 25 years; the director and conductor of the Bathurst Community Concert Band for over 25 years; assistant director and member of the Phantom Jazz Band in Bathurst; trombone player in the Ottoni Brass Ensemble; past clinician for winds of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra; winner of the NBYO Lieutenant Governor Award for community music development; the Vice Present of the New Brunswick Band Association; and the Co-Vice President of the Chaleur Music Festival. Alistair has a passion for teaching beginners to play band instruments. He also composes and arranges music for his ensembles. This is the third year Alistair will be directing at the Bathurst Band Fest and he is excited to see former participants and meet new attendees!

We are also VERY pleased to announce the addition of following people who will be on hand to conduct and offer workshops throughout the weekend: Bradley Hachey (Fredericton) - Concert Band Level 1 Conductor and Christopher Guindon (Miramichi) - Jazz Improv Sessions.
BRADLEY HACHEY
Brad is a music teacher and active musician in the Fredericton community. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Mount Allison University and a Bachelor of Education from Saint Thomas University. Since moving to Fredericton in 2015, Brad has immersed himself in the vibrant music community within the city. Some credits include: director of Second Chances Beginner Band (2017-present,) and collaborative pianist for the Fredericton Kiwanis Youth Choir (2022-present). Brad currently teaches music at Oromocto High School where he also directs the school concert band. Brad is thrilled to be working with Bathurst Band Fest 2024!

CHRISTOPHER GUINDON
Chris is originally from Happy Valley - Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador but, has been living, playing, and teaching music in Miramichi since 2011. Chris has been involved in musical performance from a young age from musical theater productions to solo instrumental works and enjoys sharing the gift of music to this day. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music and Music Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland and has been playing the saxophone for about 26 years. Chris is also the proud conductor of the Miramichi Beginner Concert Band which rehearses on a weekly basis.

DAVID GARSON
David holds both Bachelor and Masters of Music Performance degrees. He has performed with a variety of orchestras and ensembles across Canada and beyond. His teaching experience includes teaching trumpet at the Atlantic Band Festival and Vic Lewis Band Festival. He has given masterclasses across Canada and was a faculty member at Memorial University of Newfoundland and trumpet instructor at Upper Canada College. David has also recorded for CBC Radio & Television, BBC Radio and Video Arts International. Currently, David teaches brass in Fredericton and is the Technical Services Manager at the Fredericton Playhouse.

Rehearsal Location: Bathurst High School >> 640 King Ave
The Theatre, Learning Commons, Music Room, Gymnasium and Music Studio will be the main rehearsal spaces. The Student Entrance will be used for access to the building. Turn down St. John St. off King Ave. and you will see parking along the building or between the building and playground area. Please do not park at the neighbouring Aquatic Centre. (Map Below)
