Congratulations to NBBA Outstanding Band Volunteer Award Recipient, Morgan Mollins, of the The Fredericton Concert & Marching Band, UNB Concert Band at the UNB Centre for Musical Arts - Memorial Hall, two of the bands at Second Chances Band - Fredericton, Backyard Brass, STU Jazz, and the Fredericton Symphony Orchestra. Morgan puts hours of volunteer work into helping each of these ensembles run smoothly, doing everything from gear moves, to conducting, to website management, PR, and much more. This award is very well-deserved. Thanks for all your contributions to the instrumental ensemble community in Fredericton! Presented June 11, 2024 at the FCMB & Backyard Brass concert by the NBBA Regional Representative for Fredericton & Western NB, Jen Purdue. Seen here are conductors Heather Fyffe of FCMB, Jennifer Keating of Second Chances Bands, and Hugh Kennedy of UNB Concert Band.

Members of the NBBA Executive attended the funeral of Ben Gaudet on June 1, 2023 which also happens to be National Intergenerational Day in Canada.

Ben was our first recipient of an NBBA Lifetime Achievement Award presented at Bathurst Band Fest 2022. We sat and listened as Ben's eldest daughter gave a beautiful eulogy outlining his extraordinary life with a very obvious emphasis on music. From teaching music in the school system for 35 years, playing with the swing band The Stardusters for decades, conducting a band who played in front of Princess Di and Prince Charles, to being a music historian and advocate for anything to do with northern New Brunswick and even starting a new community concert band and jazz band at the age of 88 in Campbellton for adults to learn to play instruments, Ben certainly was a pleasant force to be reckoned with! He led a fantastic life and had a lasting positive influence on SO many people! Ben will be missed but, we are thankful for knowing him and shall endeavour to carry on his legacy of music.
